Dempsey Book Review: Thief of Glory by Sigmund BrouwerJeremiah Prins is the top dog in his world. Not only does he come from one of the wealthier families in the Dutch East Indies, but he is well-known for his skill at playing marbles and almost savage ability to fight. His father is emotionally distant and his mother is distracted with her own mood struggles, but Jeremiah is well cared for in his large home with servants. He has plenty of time to get into mischief with his siblings and local children, and has even come across the love of his life, Laura. Life could not be better from. Interesting World War II Novel Kristofer VanDaniker When I first received this book, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. I am fascinated by the stories of World War II so I knew a little bit of what to expect and that it wasn’t going to be an easy read. I wasn’t at all familiar with how life was for the Dutch that were living in what been Dutch-occupied Indonesia. It is very eye-opening and will reveal what war expects of children in the maelstrom. I learned a lot through the eyes of Jeremiah Prins. This however, will forever be added to my bookshelf.Imagine ten year-old Jeremiah Prins, who had lived the life

Time and war will test their fortitude and the only thing that will bring them safely to the other side is the most enduring bond of all.. When the darkest sides of humanity threaten to overwhelm Jeremiah and Laura, they reach for God’s light and grace, shining through his people. “Brouwer makes you live itaring each moment of an exotic and terrifying time and place in a gripping, personal way.”—Bodie and Brock Thoene, authors of Take this Cup A boy coming of age in a time of war…the love that inspires him to survive. For ten year-old Jeremiah Prins, the life of privilege as the son of a school headmaster in the Dutch East Indies comes crashing to a halt in 1942 after the Japanese Imperialist invasion of the Southeast Pacific. Jeremiah takes on the responsibility of caring for his younger siblings when his father and older stepbrothers are separated from the rest of the family, and he is surprised by what life in the camp reveals about a woman he barely knows—his frail, troubled mother. Life in the camps is made more tolerable as Jeremiah’s boyhood infatuation with his close friend Laura deepens into a friendship from which they both draw strength. Amidst starvation, brutality, sacrifice and generosity, Jeremiah draws on all of his courage and cunning to fill in the gap for his mother
