The Best Book of It's KInd, By Far There are so many books that try to teach the art of writing poetry, and most of them rate anywhere from not helpful to hurtful, because some of them will actually send aspiring poets on a fruitless wild good chase.THE BEST THING ABOUT MYERS IS THAT HE TEACHES YOU HOW TO PRIME THE PUMP OF CREATIVITY! AND THAT'S HALF THE BATTLE!There's no one in his league. Jack Myers' books are in a class by themselves. He's the best. He is a poet and a professor of poetry (SMU University) and was once poet laureate of the stat. "The Best Book for a Poet" according to L. M. Ochsenbein. This book has been invaluable to me for completing poems. I can go to my list of freewrites, and adopt any number of processes/theories/ideas from this book to complete them. It is amazing to me how practical this book is while also expanding my understanding of what a poem is and what a poem does and what a poem CAN do.It's compact, accessible, and good for all levels of poets with information that will guide you through your avocation for many many many years. If you write poetry, you should have this book!. Carol W. Bachofner said You cannot live without Jack. As a professional poet, I can attest to the fact that this book is a must for all serious poets and students of poetry. I have two copies, one on my desk and one in my briefcase. I am wearing the pages thin in both.As a teacher of poetry, I am grateful to have Myers" book as a resource. It's content is comprehensive and appeals to the more educated reader. However, it is down to earth enough to be a real help for the beginner or intermediate poet. The Portable Poetry Workshop
