"William oh William" according to Janet. Enjoy ed this book because it started out with a typical boy, and a typical father relationship. Then it became something that could realistically change too. There were lots of roads the story/relationship could have gone, but the one the author choose made for a great story. I think most fathers would do about anything for their son, especially when the relationship has been a close one all the formative years of the child's life. I also think William's character was quite realistic, especially in this last jail scene when he is on the floor crying and talking to the guy in the next cell. . Julie Valpey said Must Read for Parents of Student Athletes. The Case Against William is a fantastic story about a father and son relationship torn apart. That story will have you in tears by the time you close the book on the last page. But it's an even more fantastic story about the world of high school and college sports; about how our society has deified star sportsmen to the point of re-defining what a true hero is; and effect all of this false worship has had on ordinary people with extraordinary physical gifts- the athletes. Fascinating reading!. "If you can buy into some inaccuracies, it's a good read" according to Serena. A pretty good read (although way too much football detail) as long as the reader accepts two things: 1. that football is all that important to the country at large (I know it is in some areas of Texas, but an entire season can go by without one of my friends or co-workers mentioning the sport) and 2. that Texas does not recognize Alford pleas--the "I'm not admitting guilt but concede that there is enough evidence to convict me" pleas. (It does.)
