Excellent book for the biological or health related researcher with a touch of humor scattered throughout making it quite easy to read. It is comprehensive, touching on the most useful statistical techniques with excellent, concise examples and easy to understand explanations. The text is appropriate for those with little previous knowledge of statistics while refreshing and informative for those with a bit more experience. A Customer said Great intro to statistics with a dry sense of humor. To start off with, this is one of the least friendly looking textbooks I've ever had. Appearances are deceiving, though, as this has become one of the very few textbooks I've read cover to cover. Schork and Remington have a dry sense of humor, and as close to a light, flowing style as can be expected from a statistics textbook.

Several larger examples are used repeatedly (from chapter to chapter) to demonstrate how investigators develop and carry out a study by moving from problem statement, to data accrual, to computation of descriptive statistics, to estimation and hypothesis testing, including univariate, bivariate and finally multivariable procedures for both discrete and continuous variables. Estimation. The book is not tied to any particular computer package (e.g., SAS, Systat, BMDP), however many prototype computerized outputs of statistical analyses are illustrated and discussed in detail, with guidelines for reading and interpreting results.
