DESCRIPTION:
About the Author Found under a cabbage leaf on a Maine farm in 1964, J.E.Moores was raised by wolves, abducted by aliens, and then sold to the gypsies.
J.E.Moores has one crazy looking family tree. Meet Mammy, a redhead beauty who smuggled subversive underground comics to her grandchild from the Adults Only section of the Rockland Greyhound Station newstand. No family secret is safe in this honest slice of Americana, spanning five generations of Mainers. And don't forget the farmhouse ghost, Old Grandma. You may find that this family is not too different from yours.. Meet forgetful Kenneth and his pet turkey that followed him everywhere, the neighbor Hamburger Head, and Cecil the Seal Boy from the Union Fair Freak Show. A hilarious epic that gets the reader laughing out loud and then hits you deep with an awareness of humanity's beautiful flaws. On its branches he airs his mother's dirty laundry with a sharp wit, setting her bouffant hairdo into a tizzy. Meet Grampy, a rascal who told tall tales about Snotgrass, Swamp Boggers, Philly Lou Birds, Side Hill Gougers and a Yupapotamus on long drives through the backwoods of Maine

A wonderful celebration of a loving family full of wacky peculiarities The book was recommended to me by a friend. I am so glad he did! This book is a wonderful celebration of a family full of wacky peculiarities. Nothing keeps this family down! Quirky, complex, great storytelling, and "wicked" funny! The characters are moving and stay with you. I liked the book so much, I've read it twice now.. "Families are complicated." according to maine Shopper. A loving tribute to a complex family. Every time you think things are all going to work out, there is a new twist. It made me laugh out loud and cry; sometimes at the same moment. Although this particular family is in Maine, I think anyone can relate to the characters. An easy read.. "A book that anyone can take something from, feel nostaligc with the Flanders', The Moores', The Pease's and friends!" according to Meghan Pease. Such a wonderful read, especially since I am apart of the family of course! Although, the book did not make it as far as my life and my being, my father, my grandmother, my great aunt, and great grandparents are all major characters. "Aunt Faye and Uncle Tim" are my grandparents, whom raised me most of my life, very similar to the bond that J.E. Moores held with his grandparents "Grampy and Grammy" who happen to be my great grandparents.
