There are several things you need to do to take advantage of your live performances, especially when you are not getting paid for them! You want to get as much exposure as possible and make as much money with your merchandise as you can. Let me stress this, it does not matter if you are performing in front of 3 people or 3,000 people, the concept and philosophy is the same!
