DESCRIPTION:
"Finally . a book that talks about bottlenecks!!!!" according to A Customer. I must own every Oracle book ever written so I know how difficult it is to find information on treating the disease instead of the symptoms. Anyone who doesn't find this to be one of the most valuable books in their collection clearly is set in the old school ways of just checking hit ratios. I have followed along with many of the examples and am extremely grateful for the accuracy . it's as if Gaja & Kirti are working with you. I've already recomm. "Excellent book" according to Tuco. This guy has a clue. "Good" ratios don't mean anything if the users are complaining. EXAMINE THE WAIT STATS. Anyway, this fellow is an Oracle genius and actually has a sense of humor. Loved his explanation of pctfree/pctused. Even a child could understand it!My big complaint though (and the reason this did not get 5 stars) is that the #&)@! book falls apart. The binding is cheap or something. I have other books in this series and they have all fall. Superb book Gaja's book will educate, entertain and inspire you to learn all about the Oracle "wait interface". I've implemented Gaja's techniques and achieved significant performance gains with problematic SQL and non-optimally tuned Unix and NT systems. This is a must have book for Oracle DBAs and Oracle Developers responsible for database/server tuning.
You'll also get tips for identifying Oracle's current bottlenecks, prioritizing and performing tuning operations, writing optimal SQL, interpreting statistics, and much more. From the Back Cover Learn to optimize and fine-tune your Oracle system's overall performanceImplement tuning solutions using the proven methodology found inside "Oracle Performance Tuning 101 gives you step-by-step practical advice for removing bottlenecks, minimizing downtime, and increasing overall system performance. Written in a clear and engaging style, this book expl

With the increase in e-commerce and deployment of databases and applications on the Internet, the task of keeping databases running is becoming increasingly important. Tuning Oracle databases or Oracle Performance Management (OPM) is what database administrators (DBAs) do to help the database run optimally. This entry-level study teaches the essentials of keeping databases running at top performance. The guide covers releases 7.3 through 8i for NT, Linux and Unix platforms.
