DESCRIPTION:
"Essays and Tributes" according to William Fox. For the information of those interested enough to read this review, this book contains six of Vaclav Havel's essays (including the excellent "Power of the Powerless" and an open letter to Gustav Husak) as well as sixteen letters or essays of tribute to Havel (including an essay by Samuel Beckett and another by Arthur Miller). Havel's essays are published in several other works, but I haven't found the letters to and about him in any other book. This is an interesting book abo. "Should be required reading for the West" according to Harry A. Kiesel. This has to be one of the most enlightening books I've read. Although the setting leading to his views is a communist dominated country (and of this he paints a clear picture), the contents of his essays are timeless and apply to every society and every group of humans, small or large. The prose is crystal clear and easy reading, a rarity, it seems to me, in today's literary products. Deep humility and compassion shine throughout. Highly recommended.
Gathers essays by the Czech playwright, and includes writings by other authors in his honor."
