Though "Hannah and the Spindle Whorl" revolves around the adventures of a twelve year old, it is one of those children's books that can be enjoyed by all ages. As a teacher, I read a lot of novels geared towards younger ages. Hannah and her story ended up being one of the most enjoyable reads I've had and as a result I've been reading it to my grade 6 class.The story is told through the voice of outdoorsy, quirky twelve year old Hannah. This narrative was especially enjoyable for me to read out loud as Hannah's voice is not only highly developed in terms of character, she also uses language true to someone of that age. Almost instantly, it reminded me of one of my favourite childhood books, 'The Golden Pine Cone' by Catherine Anthony Clark.
