DESCRIPTION:
A computer program assigns a color to each point in the image based on the answers to a chosen equation, which then results in abstract fractal shapes. Fractals are the visual depictions of mathematical equations, the same equations, in fact, that describe natural phenomena such as coastlines, plant shapes and weather patterns. Dozens of variables are manipulated in order to create these fascinating images. The Fractal Cosmos 2010 wall calendar features the organic designs of Alice Kelley, who says, Fractals are an intuitive glimpse into the infinite order that comprises the natural world, as well as being proof that math is beautiful.. Equations representing the images accompany each picture
Visual music Kelley's art is evolving. Her fractals are always beautiful--her sense of color is unequaled, always has been. Year after year she takes fractal art to new levels, and the 2010 calendar is no exception; she has surpassed herself. Beautifully composed, spacious images--each page is a revelation. If you have any doubt that a fractal can rightly be called a work of art, you have not seen the work of Alice Kelley.I have the calendar; it's beautifully designed. As a bonus, there are (as always) terrific math-relate. "delivers beautiful fractal!" according to J. i'm not really a math geek, but i watched a show on PBS about fractal geometry and all the artwork was so pretty i was inspired to get this calendar! The art in this does not disappoint! But the main reason i am writing this review is because i just noticed the October art looks like a creepy face with long wispy creepy hair. whats' up with that?!
