It is intelligent, compassionate, and on-target with what we know about teaching and learning in the 21st century. After reading Selwyn's Following the Threads, I have decided to discontinue using the elementary social studies methods text I have used for years and begin to use Selwyn as a foundation combined with other selected readings. The text I have been using, while a wonderful resource, does not offer the depths of inquiry, practical ap. Investigating complexity, bringing the world into sharper relief Adam Renner Selwyn has been teaching me, through his scholarship and pedagogy, for some time. Following the Threads was no different. While it was particularly timely for me, which I'll talk about below, I imagine teachers at any level, teaching just about any content area, will find the text of immediate use. What, perhaps, seems like a research text is really a general guide to inquiry methods replete with lesson/unit/project ideas.Following the Threads has assembled teacher. Ewbank I first met Doug Selwyn at a social studies workshop years ago, where he and his wife Jan Maher (also an accomplished writer and educator) presented practical, engaging and inspiring ways to bring theater into the social studies classroom.
