Sophie Allen) a woman who is intelligent and unencumbered with emotional baggage. Wonders of wonders, she doesn't even have family problems, being happily married to husband Martin who is Head of the Mathematics Dept at a secondary school. Sophie is a loving mother to her daughters, Hannah and Jade and doesn't have to endure any rivalry and back stabbing at Swanage Police Station where she works. This is refreshing and different as most books of this type seem to follow the same formula of the . Superb police procedural I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. We are introduced to a Dorset DCI, Sophie Allen, and through Hambling's meticulous--but not overdrawn--descriptions, become partners with Allen and her staff as they lay out the solution to a series of murders. Hambling gave enough details that a few times I was able to spot an important clue before the detectives did, which pleased me no end. To complete the experience, there is a surprising twist at the end that completely surprised me. All in all a great read!.
