This book will save you $100's of dollars because it explains, in detail, why a bit works the way it does. It will change the way you think.. "Pretty good book." according to Jon Grosfield. He has a whole bunch of really good information and observations. The only problem is that this book isn't set up in your traditional linear way. It's kind of all over the place. He goes from one thing to another and back sometimes. I had to read some sections more than once to get what he was saying. Again it's good information and pretty helpful. It's just a little incoherent sometimes.. Interesting. Wasn't sure what to expect, but I found this to be very interesting. Some of the information is obviously biased towards working quarter horses though, whereas I have gaited horses. Therefore, when he recommends taking the curb chain off of the gag combo bit, I do use the curb chain, judiciously and sparingly, when teaching a horse to stay in gait. I don't trail ride in it though- I agree with the author that it's not a good riding bit that way. Other than that, for the most part I defer to the author regarding the general uses and his rating of various bits. Worth
