DESCRIPTION:

When an ill-fated wedding draws to its inevitable conclusion, the company's plans are set in motion, and Andrea must unravel them. From School Library Journal Grade 9 Up–Andrea Mitchell returns to the past, only it's not exactly the past she visited in The Sterkarm Handshake (HarperCollins, 2000). Her nasty ex-boss at FUP asks once again for her translating services, and Andrea agrees to go back through the Time Tube to the 16th century–against her better judgment–hoping she will be reunited with her lover, Per. Though Price re-explains the setup from book one, familiarity w

To help her imagine the Sterkarm's world, she drew on lifelong interests in history, folklore, and old ballads, as well as her hobbies of shooting with a longbow and traveling to the Scottish hills with her partner. But Windsor's manipulations can't stand against the wiles and cunning of the Sterkarms. It seems Windsor has found an alternate sixteenth-century Scotland, and there, Per is not quite the man Andrea fell in love with. With Andrea's help, they will turn the tables on both the Grannams and the "Elves" from the future. Born in Dudley, West Midlands, in England, she went on to write the Guardian Fiction Prize-winning The Sterkarm Handshake (1998) after visiting reiver country on the borders of Scotland. Now, wrapped around Windsor's finger, the Sterkarms are on the verge of a bloody feud with their long-standing enemies, the Grannams. She never felt at home in her own century, but it looks as though she's stuck with it. Her other works include the novel The Ghost Drum, which won the prestigious Carnegie Medal. Andrea again faces an impossible but

Ok, that being said, I felt that the in the first book the plot & characters were much more developed & realized. In this book, the reader is just thrown into the action & there is much less character/plot development, instead there is a lot of violence as noted in one of the editorial reviews.I also was disappointed in the ending. It is, indeed, a cliff-hanger & one can only hope that the auther plans a 3rd installmentone that is a bit more slow-paced. starmoth said Whimsical Time Travel. I heartily recommend this book. It is different from the usual time travel novel. Based in the near future, the heroine travels back to a well-researched, very gritty past. Neither she nor the hero are stereotypical. An unusual love story with refreshingly little graphic sex (so difficult to do well) and a believable villain with a bureaucratic agenda. It made me smile.
