A Good Halloween Anthology For those fascinated with Halloween this book looks at the day from its dark beginnings to .probably the present. I haven't finished reading it as yet. So far it has been interesting, well researched and is well written. It is a shame that more illustrations and some color representations aren't used to enhance the writing. But. all in all. it appears to be a good book for the the Halloween collector.
The book also includes 34 vintage photographs and illustrations.. Noted works contained in the anthology include William Wells Newell's 1904 study of the history of Jack-o'-lantern legends in "The Ignis Fatuus" and Alexander Montgomerie's oft-quoted 1584 poem "Flyting Against Polwart." Organized chronologically, most works are presented in their entirety and many include extensive annotations designed to make the original source materials more meaningful for modern readers.
